Radio Dramas I've listened to:

The Lamp:

There 2 dramas will help with my overall idea as they have given me some insight as to how it should sound overall and helped me to know how to create a piece in which people will clearly be able to hear/understand what's happening throughout. I feel as though by listening to these I have a greater knowledge of what a radio drama is, as well as how to write my own.

  • >: Quieter, getting quieter
  • <: Louder, getting louder
  • /: Small pause
  • //: Long pause
  • Use brackets for longer pauses- "//(5 minutes)"
  • Underline: Emphasis or weight implied to word in a sentence. E.g. "I didn't go" This isn't volume or loudness but emphasis.
  • Up arrow: Higher intonation of the voice to change feel/meaning of sentence.
  • Down arrow: Lower intonation of the voice to change feel/meaning of sentence.
  • Emotions: Use emoticons to indicate mood in line in your scripts-this is a new idea-but works as they are universal. Can type them in or draw own.
  • Can use simple ring of words+attach a line to a key that details the way it is said-for example, it might say "sing" or "shout" or "spoken in a posh voice".

  • (CLOSE)-close to the microphone=lower voice,more intimate.
  • (FAR)-further away from the microphone to create a distant and different voice characteristic-good for shouting.
  • (LOW)-low voice level, like a whisper.
  • (VO)-voice over, narrating over music or other descriptive complex sound.
  • (D)-distort,loud,clipping sound for the voice.
  • (OFF)-speaks away from the microphone,creates a distant and non-connected sound.
