Idea

The idea that I have for my radio drama is to make a story about a kidnapping. I feel as if this would give me a bit of a challenge as I don't want it to be too obvious to the audience who the kidnapper is or what their intentions are. It will be very dramatic and I hope to make it as realistic as I can. The use of different noises will help set the scene, as well as any music I can use. I will try to find royalty free music to avoid copyright, or I will ask someone that I know is good at music to make me some to use in my piece.

Where she went

Scene 1:

Set in a town named Elmsville at night time. A woman is walking home from work along a dark alleyway when her phone rings. It's a cold evening and the wind is blowing gently around her, the sound of cars can be heard faintly in the background. Her high heels walk quickly along the concrete pavement. 2 man are sat in a car over the street listening to her conversation. The car engine can be heard as well as various pieces of equipment beeping occasionally.

Arnie: Dude she’s getting a call.

Larry: From Cedric I assume?

Arnie: Of course it is man.

The phone is heard faintly ringing, and suddenly gets louder as it switches scenes to Florence answering the phone.

*Phone Rings*

Florence: Hello?

Cedric: Hey Florence, its Cedric.

Florence: Oh hiya, what’s up?

Cedric: Just calling to see how you are?

Florence: Yeah not too bad thanks. How are you?

Cedric: I'm good, are you home yet?

Florence: Not yet, I'm just walking now-

Cedric: Alone?

Florence: Yeah but-

Cedric: Why are you walking alone Florence?!

Florence: Because it's quicker than having to wait for Sophie to finish or waiting to get the bus! I've got stuff to do tonight Ced-

Cedric: That's not a good enough excuse and you know it. You know what's been happening lately, what if something happens to you huh? Then what?

Florence: Then it would be my fault wouldn't it? Cedric, quit your worrying, I'm fine. I'll be home in like 5 minutes, alright? Calm down for God sake.

Cedric: Please just get the bus from now on, okay? Or wait for Sally to finish. It's just not safe at the moment. I know it takes longer but wouldn't you rather just get home safe than not at all??

Florence: Fine, I'll get the bus from now on, okay? The smelly, old bus with no air con. Got it. Or wait for Sophie, the second most annoying person after you, of course.

Cedric: Florence, I'm serious.

Florence: I know I know, I'm joking. Just stop worrying so much okay? I can look after myself just fine. I'm not a kid anymore you know.

Cedric: I know, but I still worry. You know I do.

Florence: You don't need to. I'm fine. Why else would I move the other side of town to you?

Cedric: Because you think I'm annoying?

Florence: Other than that of course.

Cedric: Just make sure you get home safe okay? I'll stay on the phone till you're back if you want?

Florence: Its fine, I'm just around the corner now anyway. I'll see you tomorrow okay? Normal place, normal time.

Cedric: Normal place, normal time. Got it. See you soon then, I'll text you later okay?

Florence: Okay, I'll talk to you soon Cedric, bye.

Cedric: Bye Florence.

The sounds of the car return as Florence hangs up the phone and the scene switches back to the men in the car.

Arnie: Oh man is she in for the shock of her life.

Larry: Are we ready?

Arnie: We’re ready.

Florence is quietly humming a tune to herself when a car quickly pulls up next to her. The sound of car doors opening is heard.

Arnie: Grab her Larry!

Florence gasps and begins running away, but Larry outruns her quickly and grabs her.

Florence: Hey! Get off of me!

Larry: Shut up, you hear me? Shut the fuck up.

Arnie: Tie her up quick and throw her in the boot, I'll look out for anyone.

Florence: What?! No! Stop! Get off me! Someone help me, please!!!

Arnie: I told you to shut up!

A slap sound is heard as he strikes Florence across the face and she gasps. The sound of tape is heard as he seals up her mouth. Florence mumbles through it. A lot of noise is heard as he ties Florence up and throws her in the boot of the car, before slamming it shut.

Arnie: Get in Larry! Hurry up!

Larry: Go go go!

The car quickly speeds away as both the men laugh in triumph.

Larry: Ah man, I didn't think we'd get her! She's definitely not as strong as we thought, thank god. Talk about wasted gym hours!

Arnie: For sure man, bit of a relief though innit? At least we got her though, Gomez would literally kill us if we didn't have her. Literally.

Larry: Tell me about it man jeez, he might actually stop treating us like shit now ey?

Arnie: Not a chance in hell, you know what he's like. Always making us do his dirty work. Never met anyone like him.

Larry: Even Bill wasn't this bad, and you remember what he did to Jack right? Poor kid, never heard someone scream so much.

Arnie: Hey, we don't speak of that. You know this.

Larry: I know I know, I'm just saying. Gomez is a piece of shit-

Arnie: But he pays us. And he pays us well so we stay, okay? No matter what he's done he gives us good money.

Larry: Not saying he doesn't, just I don't always agree what he does you know?

Arnie: You don't have to agree with it, you just need to fucking do it man. This our job. He’s our boss so we have to listen to him alright?

Both men remain silent for a few moments. Florence can still be heard in the back of the car in muffled hysterics.

Arnie: Oh my god, shut the fuck up! You better be quite when we get there or things will be a lot more difficult for you.

Larry: Why does Gomez even want her man?

Arnie: I don’t know, he never said. You know what he’s like, never tells anyone anything, especially us. Very secretive, doesn’t even talk to Johnny about it anymore.

Larry: Yeah I guess. I’d prefer to know why we’ve been watching her for so long though, seems kinda weird.

Arnie: Would you really wanna know though? Then you’d know what he was going to do to her, wouldn’t that be worse? Maybe he’ll keep her for a bit longer than he usually would though, I mean what’s the point of watching her for months on end if he’s just gonna kill her after a week? Nah, he’s got other plans for this one I’m sure.

Florence is heard screaming more at this comment. The men ignore her.

Larry: I don’t know about this man, I mean, doesn’t it seem kinda, I dunno, inhumane?

Arnie: I’m surprised you know what that word even means Larry.

Larry: I’m serious man, I mean who knows what’s gonna happen to her? Remember Sally? And Betty? Caroline? And-

Arnie: I get it man okay? I get it, he’s killed a lot of people-

Larry: Women. He’s killed a lot of women.

Arnie: Why are you now having these feelings huh? Why not 4 months ago when we first started? What’s happened between now and then huh?

Larry: I just-I dunno. Seems wrong to me all of a sudden. Like obviously I’ve always knows it’s complete shit, but only now that we’re actually doing it ourselves I see that it’s just fucking wrong man. It’s so fucking wrong.

Arnie: Look, I know you’re scared okay? I am too, but if we don’t deliver her in the next few hours he’ll kill her and us and you fucking know it.

Larry: Not necessarily.

Arnie: What do you mean-

Larry: Stop the car Arnie.

Arnie: What? No way-

Larry: Stop the fucking car Arnie!

The breaks squeak as the car stops and the door opens as Larry walks to the boot. He opens it and Florence is silent.

Arnie: What the fuck are you doing!? Get back in the car man! Are you insane!?

Larry: No, this is wrong and you know it. You fucking know it!

Arnie: So what?? It’s our fucking job! What do you thinks gonna happen if we go back to the warehouse without her huh? What? You think he’s just gonna let it slide?? No fucking way. You know that’s not gonna happen.

Larry: Then let’s just not go back. Arnie, this isn’t us. We aren’t like these people, okay? We’re not. And this is gonna be on heads. We’ve done all the dirty work for him and what do we get? Dirty money. That’s what. Dirty fucking money. Dirty money for dirty work. And is it even worth it in the end? Is it??

Both men are silent for a few moments.

Arnie: What are we doing man?

Larry: C’mon, let’s get her out.

Both men walk to the back of the car and get Florence out.

Florence: W-what are you doing?

Larry: Letting you go. Please just, get out of here okay? We can't help you out but we're letting you run.

Florence: Wrong decision boys, should've done your job.

Larry: What do you mean-

A car pulls up beside them. Out walks Gomez.

Arnie: Gomez?? Wh-what are you doing here man?

Gomez: You've failed me gentlemen.

Arnie: Wait you don't understand!! We only got her out the car because she was making too much noise so we were gonna teach her a little lesson you know? Nothing weird at all man so why don't we just meet you back at base huh?

Arnie is clearly frightened and nervously laughs.

Gomez: Well, go on then.

Arnie: W-what?

Gomez: Teach her a lesson of course!  That is what you were going to do anyway, right?

Larry: Well, yeah, but I think she’s scared enough and learnt her lesson, haven’t you! Ha ha, cool, we’ll just chuck her back in the car and meet you at base Gomez!

Gomez: No you won’t. Cut the girl free. Now.

They cut her free and she walks over to Gomez.

Gomez: Thank you for helping me Florence, you’ve done a wonderful job these few months. Wish I could say the same to these men.

Larry: Gomez what do you mean-

Florence: You two really are the dumbest people in the gang huh?

Gomez: Now now Florence, let’s try to be nice.

Arnie: Dude what the fuck is going on?

Gomez: This was a set up. To test your loyalty to me and the gang, but obviously, you don’t belong here. You’re dishonestly will cost you your lives. What a pity too, you always did such a good job of cleaning up.

A gun cock is heard as he pulls out a gun.

Arnie: Now let’s just hold up a minute okay? We’re sorry Gomez it won’t happen again I swear-

Gomez: Save it. You both make me sick.

Larry: Please Gomez, we have families!

Gomez: You should’ve thought about that before you betrayed me, shouldn’t you? Goodbye, gentlemen.

2 gun shots are heard as both men fall to the ground with a loud thump.
